Social inclusion

ocial inclusion is the process of improving the terms on which individuals and groups take part in society—improving the ability, opportunity, and dignity of those disadvantaged on the basis of their identity.

Good practices

USMA Caselle

Social inclusion is one of the most important goals a youth project aims to achieve. Social inclusion means to strength the society itself, giving to everyone the possibility to make their voice heard through a series of means, ranging from political, cultural or social engagement. That is why integration itself represents an added value for the whole society, by creating a community where everyone can give his own contribution to strength prosperity and democratic values. By building a responsible community through an horizontal process of cooperation, is then easier to avoid social marginalization and all problems connected, namely poverty, racism and violence. In this sense, sport activities perfectly suit with this aim. Sport holds an important place in the lives of many EU citizens, and plays a strong societal role with a powerful potential for social inclusion in and through sport, meaning that participation in sport or physical activity in many different ways contributes to inclusion into society. Throughout its values of respect and tolerance, and by the participation to relevant international projects, USMA promotes sport as a way to integrate people. In this sense, the project CORPLAY, in which USMA is partner, wants to study and test how basic sports associations can contribute to the integration of second-generation immigrants into society. The scope of the project is to enhance the role of sport in preventing youth radicalization, by developing a sports grassroots innovative approach to tackle intolerance, xenophobia and discrimination leading to extremism, while increasing youth participation in sport.

Marmaduke

Social inclusion represents one of the most striking barriers in the development of a fair and equal society. A lack of social inclusion may easily prevent people from fully participating in political, economic, and social life. These groups may be excluded through legal systems, land, and labour markets and discriminatory or stigmatizing attitudes, beliefs, or perceptions. In this sense, projects based on art and culture play an essential role in reshaping society in a more sustainable and inclusive meaning. Marmaduke has always been promoting integration between cultures and among people of different origins and social statuses. Art is a revolutionary tool toward social change, thanks to which everyone feels integrated and accepted in the community. In this sense, the most relevant project Marmaduke has worked with is SOUNDROUTES, a Creative Europe which deal with integration towards art. Soundroutes initiative provides an opportunity for international musicians who emigrated to Europe to perform within local communities and in collaboration with local artists. Several musical concepts were designed with the objective of supporting their integration into the social and professional environment of the host community.
